I think it was the end of a long day and I started to space out during that scene… I watched it but wasn’t processing anymore, so a week later when I wrote all this up, I’d forgotten the entire scene.

I’m not sure what there was to figure out about that scene. Colin gradually falls in love with Pauline/Emily who’s so unresponsive she eventually feigns not noticing what he’s doing right in front of her.

Miming death and then “really” getting killed is a constant in Rivette, most especially “Noroit” — which stars Bernadette Laffont.
