This isn&#8217;t ranked.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eric Rohmer&#8217;s Tales of the Four Seasons<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I saw <em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/9421\">Summer&#8217;s Tale<\/a><\/em> late last year in theaters, <em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/10146\">Winter&#8217;s Tale<\/a><\/em> and <em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/10123\">Tale of Springtime<\/a><\/em> this year at Filmstreams, then <em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/10192\">Autumn Tale<\/a><\/em> at home on blu-ray to complete the series.  All four were great, the most I&#8217;ve ever enjoyed Rohmer&#8217;s work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bill Plympton<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I watched two of his great features (<em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/10191\">Cheatin&#8217;<\/a><\/em> and <em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/10189\">Idiots and Angels<\/a><\/em>), countless shorts, and got to meet and talk with the man himself.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chris Marker<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After watching and rewatching a few remaining films, I declared my quest to watch everything by Chris Marker a success and did <a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/10693\">a write-up<\/a> on everything I&#8217;d seen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Linklater&#8217;s <a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/9760\">Before Trilogy<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In preparation for <em>Before Midnight<\/em>, Katy and I rewatched <em>Before Sunrise<\/em> and <em>Before Sunset<\/em>, a great Monday night ritual in January that we didn&#8217;t manage to build on throughout the rest of the year.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/9937\">Chaplin Mutuals<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Watched all of the great HD restorations of these in the first half of 2015, most of them for the first time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Retro Screenings in Theaters<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Between the Ross, Filmstreams, the Grand (via Fathom\/TCM), the Cube, and now the Alamo, we&#8217;ve got bunches of ways to go out and see classic movies.  Highlights this year:<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/9394\">Man with the Movie Camera<\/a><\/em>, restored print with Alloy Orchestra<br \/>\nJohn Waters double-feature (<em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/9892\">Polyester<\/a><\/em> and <em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/9893\">Hairspray<\/a><\/em>)<br \/>\n<a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/9815\">Katharine Hepburn double-feature<\/a> (<em>Philadelphia Story<\/em> and <em>Little Women<\/em>)<br \/>\n<em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/10452\">Evil Dead<\/em> double-feature<\/a> (free movies with free beer)<br \/>\nand <em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/10736\">Roman Holiday<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I feel there are things that don&#8217;t fit neatly into one of my best-movies lists, so they can have their own special list.
