{"id":11076,"date":"2016-05-25T20:00:06","date_gmt":"2016-05-26T01:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/?p=11076"},"modified":"2020-08-31T13:36:22","modified_gmt":"2020-08-31T17:36:22","slug":"experimenter-2015-michael-almereyda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/11076","title":{"rendered":"Experimenter (2015, Michael Almereyda)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>First half hour covers Stanley Milgram&#8217;s (Peter Sarsgaard of <em>Night Moves<\/em>, <em>Black Mass<\/em>) obedience experiments, which I knew a fair bit about, but in school we covered their problematic ethics, not their much more problematic results, nor the connections Milgram made with nazi Germany &#8211; the elephant in the room.  &#8220;The results are terrifying and depressing.  They suggest that the kind of character produced in American society can&#8217;t be counted on to insulate its citizens from brutality and inhumane treatment in response to a malevolent authority.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/journal\/image16\/experimenter1.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p><em>Jim Gaffigan as the confederate:<\/em><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/journal\/image16\/experimenter2.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Winona Ryder plays his wife, and this is <a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/11000\">the second movie<\/a> I&#8217;ve seen in two months with its emotional peak a shot of a distraught Ryder.
