Interesting visual effects illustrate Hertzfeldt&#8217;s nihilist meanderings, which would be explored from a more personal perspective in <em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/8895\">It&#8217;s Such a Beautiful Day<\/a><\/em> and perfected in story and dialogue form in <em>World of Tomorrow<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/journal\/image16\/donh2.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<br \/>\n<strong><em>The Simpsons<\/em> Open (2015)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I am simpson! I am simpson!<\/p>\n<p>Give me your money.  Give me your money.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/journal\/image16\/donh1.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<br \/>\n<strong><em>World of Tomorrow<\/em> extra<\/strong> (he teases a sequel in the interview):<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/journal\/image16\/donh3.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<br \/>\n<strong><em>Rejected<\/em> (2000)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I didn&#8217;t mean to watch the movie that beat <em>Rejected<\/em> at the oscars <a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/11131\">on the same day<\/a>, but that&#8217;s how it turned out.<\/p>\n<p>Appreciate the paper effects in HD.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/journal\/image16\/donh5.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<br \/>\n<strong><em>Lily and Jim<\/em> (1997)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Been a good while since I watched this blind date story.  &#8220;Women just don&#8217;t understand me!  Come to think of it, this is a problem that a lot of women seem to have.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I really don&#8217;t like coffee&#8230; and actually I&#8217;m extremely allergic to the caffeine but, you know, I didn&#8217;t wanna ruin the evening or anything.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/journal\/image16\/donh4.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<br \/>\n<strong><em>Billy&#8217;s Balloon<\/em> (1998)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Seen this a thousand times.  The picture remaster isn&#8217;t revelatory because the miracle of the comedy is all in the audio and timing.
