At his sister&#8217;s house, sound is made by electric gizmos, and at Hulot&#8217;s, it&#8217;s made by aiming a sunbeam at a caged bird.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/journal\/image17\/mononcle2.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/journal\/image17\/mononcle3.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Sidetracks follow neighborhood dogs and schoolboy pranks.  At the end the dad bonds with his son in a small way, at the expense of having Hulot sent away, and the dogs again take over the film.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/journal\/image17\/mononcle1.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p><em>On of my favorite gags, the women talking to each other but facing the direction the path dictates:<\/em><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/journal\/image17\/mononcle4.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Won the oscar over <em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/8651\">Big Deal on Madonna Street<\/a><\/em>, and won a jury prize at Cannes the year of big winner <em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/4303\">The Cranes are Flying<\/a><\/em>.
