{"id":12465,"date":"2018-01-17T20:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-01-18T02:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/?p=12465"},"modified":"2018-01-17T14:27:54","modified_gmt":"2018-01-17T20:27:54","slug":"castle-in-the-sky-1986-hayao-miyazaki","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/12465","title":{"rendered":"Castle in the Sky (1986, Hayao Miyazaki)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We didn&#8217;t want <em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/12458\">Downsizing<\/a><\/em> to be our official final film of 2017, so we rewatched <em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/10029\">Inside Out<\/a><\/em> on new year&#8217;s eve, then after a couple of attempts, managed to make this early Ghibli feature our first movie of 2018.  The early ones are cool, but we&#8217;re more taken by their later works (<em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/9737\">Mononoke<\/a><\/em> and everything after).<\/p>\n<p><em>Pirates:<\/em><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/journal\/image18\/laputa1.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>A couple of orphan kids from different backgrounds meet and end up saving the world by teaming with pirates to stop a power-mad government agent from harnessing the destructive power of an ancient and abandoned floating city called Laputa.  The boy Pazu (pronounced <em>POT-sue<\/em> in the Disney dub) is from a factory town, and the girl Sheetah is descended from Laputa royalty, and that&#8217;s about all we learn about them before the movie erupts into battles, pirate humor, and tons of flying machines.<\/p>\n<p>Every Miyazaki movie has a standout piece of character or vehicle design &#8211; in this one it&#8217;s long-armed bird-loving robots.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/journal\/image18\/laputa2.jpg\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We didn&#8217;t want Downsizing to be our official final film of 2017, so we rewatched Inside Out on new year&#8217;s eve, then after a couple of attempts, managed to make this early Ghibli feature our first movie of 2018.
