{"id":14129,"date":"2021-04-03T21:00:57","date_gmt":"2021-04-04T01:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/?p=14129"},"modified":"2021-04-03T16:25:31","modified_gmt":"2021-04-03T20:25:31","slug":"el-bruto-1952-luis-bunuel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/14129","title":{"rendered":"El Bruto (1952, Luis Bu\u00f1uel)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The couple years between Bu\u00f1uel&#8217;s two Mexican bus films were productive, and this is a good one &#8211; better than <em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/13804\">Illusions Travel by Streetcar<\/a><\/em>, anyway.<\/p>\n<p>El Bruto is an exploited slaughterhouse worker, mocked by coworkers despite his strength, hired by a local landlord to terrorize the organizing tenants into leaving an apartment complex so it can be redeveloped.  I wasn&#8217;t intending to watch two <a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/14042\">collectivist worker films<\/a> in a row, just a happy accident.<\/p>\n<p>While fleeing from the law after terrorizing the locals, a tragic chicken murder occurs.  Then Bruto busts in on Meche, the woman whose chicken (and father) he killed, falls for her and attempts to manufacture a happy ending, but his wife Maria interferes.<\/p>\n<p>Bruto had major roles in a couple John Ford movies and a James Bond.  The landlord&#8217;s girl Maria Juado had a good Hollywood run in at least three major westerns and <em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/6018\">Under The Volcano<\/a><\/em>.  Wife Maria was better known as a ballet dancer, and Meche was in <em>The Robot vs. The Aztec Mummy<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Bruto getting his orders from the landlord:<\/em><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/journal\/image21\/bruto1.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p><em>Bruto&#8217;s excuse for everything:<\/em><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/journal\/image21\/bruto2.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p><em>Bruto&#8217;s ex is enraged that he&#8217;s got a new girl:<\/em><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/journal\/image21\/bruto3.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p><em>Things end as they must, in a hail of gunfire:<\/em><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/journal\/image21\/bruto4.jpg\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The couple years between Bu\u00f1uel&#8217;s two Mexican bus films were productive, and this is a good one &#8211; better than Illusions Travel by Streetcar, anyway.
