Andrew Garfield plays the guy who would later write <em>Rent<\/em>, Miranda stuffs the cast with theater people we didn&#8217;t recognize, and the whole thing is charming with good music.<\/p>\n<p>Charles Bramesco called Garfield exhausting and said Larson&#8217;s &#8220;pre-success years play like fan fiction of his own life.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This was chosen as a movie to please everyone at Thanksgiving, and it mostly worked out.<br \/>\nWe also attempted to watch:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>most of <em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/591\">The Mystery of Picasso<\/a><\/em><\/li>\n<li>the first half hour of <em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/8141\">Daisies<\/a><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/14703\">In The Same Breath<\/a><\/em><\/li>\n<li>the opening scene of <em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/14447\">Annette<\/a><\/em><\/li>\n<li>first half of <em>Stop Making Sense<\/em><\/li>\n<li>first episode of <em>Exterminate All The Brutes<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The American Movie of the theater scene, guy spending years working on an epic that is never finished, then turns his own creative process into art instead.
