He loves the music, doesn&#8217;t care about historical truth, and never gets so caught up in plot that he forgets to make wonderful images.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/journal\/image24\/musiclove2.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Peter Tchaikovsky (Richard Chamberlain of <em>The Last Wave<\/em>) has got a boss who doesn&#8217;t like his compositions (Max Adrian, title star of <em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/7069\">Delius<\/a><\/em>), a patron who does (Izabella Telezynskan of at least two other Russell biopics), a libidinous new wife (Glenda Jackson), and a gay lover he can&#8217;t be seen with (Chris Gable, Strauss in <em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/3690\">Dance of the Seven Veils<\/a><\/em>).  And I&#8217;d just like to point out that Peter&#8217;s playwright brother is Kenneth Colley, <em>Life of Brian<\/em>&#8216;s Jesus.  Ends downbeat, Peter dying in hospital after suicidally drinking cholera water, Glenda in a madhouse, both of them obsessed with the question of whether he ever loved her.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/journal\/image24\/musiclove1.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Ebert called it &#8220;irresponsible&#8221; and Kael called it &#8220;vile.&#8221;  Russell wrote a piece <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2004\/jul\/01\/1\">in the Guardian<\/a>, says his life was changed by Tchaikovsky&#8217;s music, and twenty years later he succeeded in honoring the man in film.  &#8220;Great heroes are the stuff of myth and legend, not facts. Music and facts don&#8217;t mix. Tchaikovsky said: &#8216;My life is in my music.&#8217; And who can deny that the man&#8217;s music is not utterly fantastic?
