{"id":17414,"date":"2025-03-25T21:00:36","date_gmt":"2025-03-26T01:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/?p=17414"},"modified":"2025-03-19T10:53:48","modified_gmt":"2025-03-19T14:53:48","slug":"hollow-man-2000-paul-verhoeven","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/17414","title":{"rendered":"Hollow Man (2000, Paul Verhoeven)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The effects hold up less well than <em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/17246\">Starship Troopers<\/a><\/em> but they&#8217;re illustrating a cool concept (mammals becoming visible from their veins outward) &#8211; and I&#8217;m sure they were closer to cutting-edge at the time, but now when lab leader Kevin Bacon invisibles himself and becomes a skeleton I get the song &#8220;Money for Nothing&#8221; in my head.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/journal\/image25\/hollow.jpeg\"><\/p>\n<p>Bacon is a science genius but kind of an asshole &#8211; his first order of business when becoming invisible is to sexually harass coworkers &#8211; so his ex Elisabeth Shue and her square-jawed labmate Josh Brolin are understandably hiding their relationship from him.  Not taking the news well that he can&#8217;t be re-visibled, Bacon goes out and rapes his neighbor, kills his boss (Bill Devane of <em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/14384\">Rolling Thunder<\/a><\/em>), then comes back to trap and slaughter his entire team (including <em>Zero Effect<\/em>&#8216;s Kim Dickens).
