{"id":18115,"date":"2025-11-04T21:00:19","date_gmt":"2025-11-05T02:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/?p=18115"},"modified":"2025-11-02T21:33:29","modified_gmt":"2025-11-03T02:33:29","slug":"candyman-3-2021-nia-dacosta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/18115","title":{"rendered":"Candyman 3 (2021, Nia DaCosta)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>All along I thought this was a remake, but it&#8217;s full of references to the events in the <a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/18114\">Bernard Rose movie<\/a>, so it&#8217;s either part three or a rebooted part two (nobody remembers <em>Farewell to the Flesh<\/em>, which starred some girl from <em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/5910\">The Gate<\/a><\/em>).  Bookended with scenes of murderous cops, artist Morpheus (<em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/14833\">The Matrix 4<\/a><\/em>) learns from Colman Domingo that he was the bonfire baby from the first movie, so he becomes the new Candyman, his girl Lysistrata (<em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/10920\">Chi-Raq<\/a><\/em>) along for the ride.  I guess every generation has its own Candyman, and somehow bees are involved.  Victims include an art curator and his Joy Division girl, a new white lady reporter, and a bathroom full of high school girls.
