This was more documentary-like than I&#8217;d remembered.  Somehow I&#8217;d turned it into a Godard film in my mind (possibly because of his appearance in the film-within, or maybe because I saw <em>Breathless<\/em> the same week), but it&#8217;s really quite naturalistic, the long travel segments in buses and cars reminding me more of Rivette than Godard.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/image09\/cleofrom1.jpg\" alt=\"image\"><\/p>\n<p>Katy actually liked it &#8211; the first French movie she has liked in <a href=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/484\">a year and a half<\/a> (<em><a href=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/2668\">Amelie<\/a><\/em> doesn&#8217;t count).  She was especially happy about the guy Cleo ends up with at the end &#8211; an army guy on leave about to return to Algeria.  They share a sense of foreboding in the park.  He listens to her (unlike Cleo&#8217;s rushed boyfriend who visits her apartment) and accompanies her to the hospital, where her diagnosis is not so serious.  Katy thinks the two of them will meet again, or at least that he will write.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/image09\/cleofrom5.jpg\" alt=\"image\"><\/p>\n<p>I haven&#8217;t seen Cleo (Corinne Marchand) in anything else, though she&#8217;s in Demy&#8217;s <em>Lola<\/em>.  I loved the scene where her composer (Michel Legrand!) and lyricist come to her apartment to try out some new songs &#8211; Cleo sings one and gets lost in a close-up.<\/p>\n<p><em>Trapped inside the song (where the nights are so long):<\/em><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/image09\/cleofrom6.jpg\" alt=\"image\"><\/p>\n<p><em>Shut up, Michel Legrand:<\/em><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/image09\/cleofrom7.jpg\" alt=\"image\"><\/p>\n<p>Cleo&#8217;s maid Dominique Davray had small parts in <em>Any Number Can Win<\/em> and <em>Casque d&#8217;or<\/em>, and her nude model friend Doroth\u00e9e Blank is still acting today, appearing in Resnais&#8217; new <em>Wild Grass<\/em>.  Her boyfriend\/lover Jos\u00e9 Luis de Villalonga was in Malle&#8217;s <em>The Lovers<\/em>.
