{"id":3913,"date":"2009-12-31T23:00:50","date_gmt":"2010-01-01T04:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/?p=3913"},"modified":"2015-06-03T15:56:51","modified_gmt":"2015-06-03T20:56:51","slug":"movie-lists-2006-redux","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/3913","title":{"rendered":"Movie Lists 2006 Redux"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The reason I make lists of the top movies I&#8217;ve seen in a particular year rather than the top movies released worldwide in that year should be obvious &#8211; I don&#8217;t have access to most movies until a year or two after their release.<\/p>\n<p>For example, in 2006 I watched 32 feature-length movies which the IMDB would count as original 2006 releases, but since then I&#8217;ve seen 35 more theatrically &#8211; that&#8217;s more than twice the number before even considering stuff I caught on video, which adds another 80.<\/p>\n<p>So three years late, it seems right to make a best of 2006 list.<\/p>\n<p>Pruning the &#8217;05 titles from <a href=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/184\">my original &#8217;06 list<\/a> and shuffling a couple others, this is how things would stand at the beginning of 2007:<\/p>\n<p>1. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/180\">Children of Men<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n2. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/69\">A Scanner Darkly<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n3. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/57\">A Prairie Home Companion<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n4. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/124\">Slither<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n5. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/139\">Borat!<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n6. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/153\">The Fountain<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n7. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/122\">Shortbus<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n8. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/9\">Inside Man<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n9. <strong>The Hills Have Eyes<\/strong> remake<br \/>\n10. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/116\">The Science of Sleep<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Adding stuff I&#8217;ve seen since, and reassessing, I get:<\/p>\n<p>1. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/180\">Children of Men<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n2. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/197\">Black Book<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n3. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/197\">Bamako<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n4. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/208\">Inland Empire<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n5. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/69\">A Scanner Darkly<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n6. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/748\">Brand Upon The Brain<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n7. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/236\">The Host<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n8. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/294\">Offside<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n9. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/406\">The Screwfly Solution<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n10. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/250\">Miami Vice<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\n11. <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/deeperintomovies.net\/journal\/archives\/266\">The War Tapes<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A much better list!  In the future I will be making best-of-year lists for <em>every<\/em> year at the end of <em>every<\/em> year!<\/p>\n<p>I didn&#8217;t spend all of 2009 obsessively watching &#8217;06 releases (although I considered it) so there are still plenty of unwatched acclaimed movies (<em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/4676\">Colossal Youth<\/a><\/em>, <em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/4798\">Death of Mr. Lazarescu<\/a><\/em>, <em>Half Nelson<\/em>, <em>I Don&#8217;t Want to Sleep Alone<\/em>), award-winners (<em>Indig\u00e8nes<\/em>, <em>Red Road<\/em>, <em>Flandres<\/em>, <em>The Queen<\/em>, <em>An Inconvenient Truth<\/em>) less-acclaimed movies that I expect to like anyway (<em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/7523\">Tideland<\/a><\/em>, <em>Perfume<\/em>, <em>Nacho Libre<\/em>, <em>Rescue Dawn<\/em>, <em>The Last Winter<\/em>) and others (<em>The Decay of Fiction<\/em>, <em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/6603\">Klimt<\/a><\/em>, <em><a href=\"\/journal\/archives\/4038\">Three Times<\/a><\/em>, <em>Cafe Lumiere<\/em>, <em>The Boss of it All<\/em>).
